Chapters 17 through 20 of Avatar the Last Airbender: Book 1 Water, Vol. 5 find Aang, the 12-year-old Avatar destined to bring peace to the world by mastering the four elements, once again in direct collision with the forces of the Fire nation. In "The Northern Air Temple," a sad Aang visits the ruins of a monastery well known to him in his past life. Aang is shocked to discover a tribe of faux Airbenders living there, presided over by an inventor with a dark and even treacherous secret. "The Waterbending Master" introduces Aang to a mentor he would just as soon avoid: an old Waterbender who can teach him to move, shape, and fight with liquid, prerequisites to Aang assuming his place as the world?s savior. Meanwhile, Aang's traveling companion Katara is frustrated by that same master?s refusal to sharpen her own natural, Waterbending talent; until, that is, an unexpected link between them becomes clear. This series is nice. The animation is anime-like, but I noticed that in its DVD form that some of the quality is removed and in some places blotchy.

Even though I have a 13yr old & a 7yr old that don't get along sometimes, they both enjoy the avatar series!!!

Firts, I have to say that am not a fan of nickelodeon's cartoons. So, before I let any kid in my house watch anything by themselves, I sit and watch with them first. Avatar was like unlike any other cartoon I've seen. Now Avatar as a series is great, but this particular set of Avatar episodes are by far the best. I don't want to spoil the episodes, but when it comes to the last five episodes of Water Book, the creators went all out and made an all around conclusion for the water saga and opened a great continuation link for the second Book, Earth. If you don't know anything about Avatar and want to buy the last volume of water book firt, by all means do so. It is animation and it is for children, but the story line is solid and the art is beautiful. Your kids will love this show and you will want to get all the preseading volumes.

This is a great series for all ages. It is a truely well written and well paced exposition of the process of growing up, making and keeping friends, and accepting a place in the world. Ang starts out as a kid who just wants to play and gradually over the series discovers how to be a responsible productive person. The side and back stories are also uplifting and instructive. Good for all ages. Most of the other things on Nick and CTV have devolved to cheap idiot food that has no art or story line. Kudos to whoever thought this series up.

My family loves Avatar
I wish there was a Chapter book we could read together, it would be awsome!
Such a great story, Why dont you release the DVD's more frequently would be my question to Nickalodian
Its soo long in between episodes (we dont have Cable by choice) and we have to wait until the DVDs come out and we only have 4 episodes that we get to watch.
