Amazon.com Mysterious, visually beautiful at times, and surprisingly funny, Avatar: Book 1, Volume 1 is the exciting story of Aang, a 12-year-old reincarnation of the ancient Avatar, whose purpose (in an imagined world that seems both ancient and futuristic) is to restore peace and order between warring armies of the four elements: fire, earth, water, and air. At one time or another, over thousands of years, the Avatar has been embodied in masters of each of the elements. Aang (who is freed from a century-long sleep inside an iceberg) happens to be an "airbender," capable of using air and wind as powerful forces for moving objects and defeating hostile armies of firebenders. The feature-length Avatar follows Aang and a couple of friends as he becomes reacquainted with the world he knew before his 100-year hibernation--a world now lost to history. The story also concerns internal dramas within the unforgiving world of firebenders, who are intent on destruction and conquest. This engaging story, very pleasant to look at in its rich tones of blue and orange, is for all ages. --Tom Keogh
Product Description The Avatar returns to the world searching for excitement, adventure and a good time! New friends, celebrity status, and the ruthless Fire Nation on his tail...can Aang face his destiny to save the world?

Avatar: The Greatest Show Around August 18, 2008 Avatar has to be THE greatest show nickelodion has come up with to date. I first saw it half way through the second season and it captivated me. I could instantly tell that the characters had gone through a lot of development and had their own "inside" jokes and history behind them.
A lot of shows today seem to be just a bunch of randomness with no development and no plot. Spongebob, Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy, Simpsons, Family Guy. Every show nowadays is basicly starting from square one at the beginning of every episode and simply putting those undeveloped characters into different situations.
This is not so for avatar. Throughout the series you get to see how the characters change and grow just like real human beings. New characters rise out of the storyline bringing in some minor characters you only see once or twice, and other new friends and villians that stay with the storyline until it's very end.
The script and artwork done by the authors is incredible. Clearly putting their 100% into creating every aspect of every episode making it into the Epic tale that it is.
Extras... July 20, 2007 It tells about the 4 different martail arts styles for the 4 different elements. Excellent.
The Start to A Legacy July 6, 2007 I own this DVD, I had never heard of the show, until last year, when my cousin told me about it, and she came and brought the DVDs. I was hooked after the very first episode! It was awesome. This is a wonderful series that begins with some very good episodes. My favorite episode on the DVD is the Warriors of Kyoshi, I thought the jokes and mixed battle sequences were fantastic! I think this is awesome. This is one of my favorite cartoon series ever! Nickelodeon did an awesome job on this one.
Excellent Series for the Whole Family May 7, 2007 Avatar is an excellent animated series for the whole family; enticing characters with engaging storylines, captivating action and good humor. I personally feel this is the best animated series being produced. I highly recommend this series to anyone. As a father of 2 children, I think this is easily the most meaningful and morally responsible series available for families as a whole on television (cable or no). Great fun for all; our whole family (my wife too) is eagerly waiting to see the next episodes when the next DVD becomes available.
Sincerely, Dennis Mace

I think that Avatar is one of the best shows that nick has ever made. At first I thought that it was a bunch of junk, but now I love it.I watch it all the time with my friends. Once you start watching it, you're hooked!
