Amazon.com Based on an improbable but true story, Cool Runnings concerns the Jamaican bobsled team that competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics. Director Jon Turteltaub (Phenomenon) does a fine job with both the absurdity of the situation (the athletes had never even seen snow) and the passion behind it (their desire to compete and win). John Candy, in one of his last roles, is touching as a disgraced coach who seizes the opportunity to work with the Jamaicans as a chance for redemption. The bobsled scenes look good, and the races are exciting. The climax, which is entirely unexpected, takes the film to a wholly different level, even if events in the story don't quite match the facts. --Tom Keogh

amazing September 28, 2008 I was so excited to find this movie on DVD. It was one of my favorites as a kid! came rather timely although dvd case came a little crunched which i attribute to the mail. other than that everything was fine! the dvd works great.
thanks!
Cool Runnings September 15, 2008 I have been hearing about this movie for a very long time and never got the chance to see it. It was hilarious. I love it. Typical Jamaicans anything considered a challenge is worth trying (at least once). The sky is the limit. Sanka never experience cold weather before except when he was put in the Ice cream truck had to put all the clothes he took with him to ward off the cold. I almost die laughing. Great Movie and no profanity
Seeking Gold Medals in the Game of Life August 18, 2008 Loosely based on the long-shot Jamaican Bobsled Team that debuted in the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, this comedy delivers a storm of laughs, but also has an inspirational message.
John Candy portrays a disgraced former bobsled competitor who finds redemption as the initially reluctant coach of the four-member squad. From team members who suffered great disappointment in other athletic endeavors to the doors nearly shut in their faces due to being outsiders in the world-class chess match of sports politics, this is a feel-good story on reaching for dreams and achieving victory in ways that cannot be measured simply by a stop watch.
The message is universal and one that should be revisited by young people and adults on what gold medal performances actually mean in the game of life.
