While every princess should learn and demonstrate proper etiquette, twelve young princesses learn the importance of doing good deeds and following their hearts in Twelve Dancing Princesses. When an overwhelmed King Randolph seeks the aid of his cousin the Duchess Rowena in acquainting his twelve young daughters with appropriate princess etiquette, the overly strict Duchess forbids dancing, singing and anything that makes the girls happy. The girls' misery increases when their father suddenly becomes ill and the future looks bleak until the princesses discover that twelve special books bequeathed to them by their late mother open the gateway to a magical world where wishes are granted and dancing is celebrated. Eventually, maturity demands that the twelve princesses return to the real world and confront Duchess Rowena in order to save their father and his kingdom. This CGI animated production features music by Felix Mendelssohn, ballet choreography by the New York City Ballet, and wholesome messages about morality and the power of family.  Even her brother enjoyed it! September 14, 2008
My 3-year old daughter choose to rent Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses at our local video store this weekend. She does not have any Barbies, just has an interest in anything pink, princesses or ballerinas.
Much to her twin brother's protest (and reassurance that he could play dinosaurs in the other room), we were able to start the movie.
The colors and visual details of this movie are amazing. It is really enhanced by HDTV. The dancing is beautiful and the story is great, emphasizing that a girl should be herself and each person has something special to contribute to this world.
Her mom (me), never having been a girly-girl and actually popped the head off her first and only Barbie, watched the entire movie alongside her, completely entranced.
And wouldn't you know, her brother sat down about 5 minutes into it and watched intensely as well. He claims to just like the cat and the bird in the movie. After all, his dad told him that boys don't like princesses. "Princesses are for girls." HA!
Santa will definately be purchasing this movie and possibly the first Barbie after viewing this.
A Big Hit September 5, 2008
My granddaughter was so excited to get this for her birthday from us. She loves the Dancing Princesses and age 4 and dances around the room while she's watching the show.

What more do you need...it has Barbie, Ballet and a Prince. Little girls, including mine are captivated by this movie. It has all the attributes that young girls love!

This is my daughters' favorite movie! July 31, 2008
This movie is a favorite at our home. The music in it is wonderful, as is the dancing. It has been professionally choreographed. My daughters (ages 4 and 2) imitate every dance move and know the words to the songs. In one scene, their daddy plays the role of the hero and dances with them. It has actually been a bonding experience for them. It, like other Barbie movies, has a very good message about doing what is right, learning from your mistakes, and the importance of being yourself.

I bought this for my 5 year old niece and she loved it. She loves anything about barbies, so I knew I couldn't go wrong buying it...
