After 28 million records sold worldwide, 5 Grammy nominations, and more #1 hits and weeks at #1 than any other artist in history at Adult Top 40 and Modern AC, Melisma/Atlantic recording group matchbox twenty is overdue for a Greatest Hits package. In order to create something truly special for their fans, the band returned to the studio to record their first new material in five years. Grammy-winning producer Steve Lillywhite oversaw the sessions in L.A., marking the band s first work with the renowned producer - whose credits include the likes of U2, The Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, and many others. Out of the session came six brand-new songs, turning the package into a new EP with a bonus of 11 matchbox twenty hits. The new tracks also mark their first recordings as a foursome.

5 out of 5 stars Happy Fan   October 24, 2008
My first purchase of Matchbox Twenty in a long time and I was not disappointed. The CD has new material on one CD and a mix of old favorites on the other. The only complaint would be that the first CD is very short and I would have liked to hear more new material. If your looking for a CD of new songs, but still love those hits, go with this one.

5 out of 5 stars Love the older songs; REALLY like the new songs too!   September 11, 2008
I have everything MB20 has put out (including one of the CDs from the band that came before, Tabitha's Secret and Rob Thomas's solo effort). So obviously I love the old songs but I wasn't prepared for how much I would enjoy the new ones, even though they are few! I'm always amazed at Rob Thomas' songwriting ability. From "These Hard Times":

"Morning falls like rain into the city life
There goes another night
Losing my breath in waves
Knowing that every crash is bleeding the hourglass
And taking the strife from all our lives"

and

"Move your hands in circles
Keeping me hypnotized
The power behind your eyes
Move around your bedroom cursing the naked sky
You should be here tonight
But you stay alone and cry"....

Such evocative imagery in those words! Just love it. And try as I might, I can't get the catchy tune "I'll Believe You When" out of my head.

This CD has been running non-stop for almost two weeks in my car and I'm still not tired of it. I love it so much I bought another copy to send to my son in Germany.

I agree that a true MB20 fan should STILL own copies of "Mad Season", "More Than You Think You Are", "Yourself or Someone Like You" and Thomas' "Something To Be" simply because ALL their songs are worth listening to over and over again. You will NOT be sorry you purchased this CD, even if you DO own all the others.

5 out of 5 stars Match Box Twenty Exile is Excellent   September 2, 2008
This CD is a double and includes all of their best songs. The purchase has been one of the best on Amazon so far. As much time as I spend in the car, this CD takes care of the entire commute and takes my mind off the traffic.

4 out of 5 stars Where's the rest?   July 12, 2008
What there is of this album is very good--but there is only a half album there--where is the rest? You do get a second CD that is sorta a greatest hits type thing--that sorta makes up for the short album--but I like to hear the new stuff too. Give us more. Al

5 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Compliation CD for MB20   July 8, 2008
Being a faithful MB20 fan I have all of their CDs, but I did purchase Exile on Mainstream because of the 6 new songs plus the bonus DVD. Those things alone help make this one of my favorite compilation CDs that I own.

Of course in addition to those things the selection of their hits is fairly comprehensive. While if I were to make my own I'd of course add some "B-sides", I realize that GH CDs are for fans who may *only* like the singles. Either way, I was impressed they included songs like Back to Good and Bright Lights, in addition to all of their hit singles that I LOVE.

MB20 are genius. The lyrics, the voice, the instruments...I like that they do more than the average band; they shoot for more than status quo and they shake things up with each new CD by giving them their own voice and feel. If you like MB20 this is a CD to definitely add to your collection. And if you're a radio fan, I think this CD is certainly something you'll enjoy as well.
