Being a hero is a lot to live up to and for Elliot (Larry the Cucumber), Sedgewick (Mr. Lunt), and George (Pa Grape), working as cabin boys in the local dinner theater's pirate show looks like it may be as close to heroic as any of them ever get. Back in the 17th century, heir to the throne Prince Alexander has been captured by his evil uncle Robert and his sister Princess Eloise is determined to rescue him. A magical ball bequeathed by Eloise's father magically transports Elliot, Sedgewick, and George back in time via rowboat in answer to the Princess's request for heroes, but their timidity, laziness, and lack of self confidence looks like it will prevent the trio from fulfilling their heroic mission. As the three friends struggle with their own shortcomings, they eventually discover that being heroic may be as simple as just doing what is right. Still, can they possibly live up to the expectations of the Princess and fulfill their apparent heroic destiny? This is a captivating pirate movie full of adventure, cute characters, funny moments, and catchy music that imparts a wholesome message without being either preachy or overtly religious. Best of all, this swashbuckling film won't scare even the most sensitive young viewer. (Ages 2 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

2 out of 5 stars I wish I could give this a good review   January 8, 2009
I had received this from my sister for my son's christmas present but we were unable to even watch it the first time the whole way through. It was very disappointing and my young child was very upset. This was something he had really wanted and looked forward to and he was not able to see past the first few scenes.

On looking closer it looked as if someone had put stickers on the part of the disk that it plays on. Amazon refuses to exchange it for the exact same movie as I was not the "account holder" however are willing to give me a full refund despite not being the account holder. I do not plan to use Amazon for any future purchases as my experience has not been a positive one.

I am sure the movie is fantastic, I just wish we could have seen the whole thing.

5 out of 5 stars Great entertainment for kids   January 7, 2009
This movie is a keeper, one that I'm happy for my children to watch over and over. The graphics and music make it highly entertaining and eye catching, and the message is a valuable one. I recommend this movie to anyone looking for great, wholesome entertainment for their kids!

5 out of 5 stars Watch out for those cheese curls, they bite.   January 6, 2009
This was the first movie that I took my son to in the theater. It was a smash hit with both him and me. Big Idea & Veggie Tales continue to shine. They bring morals and everyday values wrapped in an entertaining package.
Pirates is a story about three reluctant heroes who discover their courage and strength through stick-to-itiveness. Not only do the save the day, but they prove themselves capable by overcoming their fears and doing what has to be done.
The highlights for my 4 year old son were the Rock Monsters and the Attack of the Cheese Curls, during which he clung to my side. My highlight was the Rock Monster video at the end of the movie done to the B-52's Rock Lobster. Great song and it'll get stuck in your head for days.

1 out of 5 stars Propaganda For Kids?   January 3, 2009

Cartoons with agenda. It is more like relegious advertisament. Doesnt serve the religion well, and using corporate propaganda style to sell ideas to kid not only is immorla but also can have a backlash.

5 out of 5 stars Another Great Veggie DVD   January 3, 2009
Definitely worth watching, especially if you're already a fan of the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. A good story, with funny dialogue and characters you can't help enjoy. I bought the movie for my younger siblings (aged 0 to 7) but I think I like the movie more than they do!
