Their first best-of collection Greatest Hits (1971-1975) with sales of over 28 million remains the #1 top-selling album ever. The band's roots go back to their role as defining artists in the phenomenally popular Southern California rock scene of the '70's a decade in which they delivered four consecutive #1 albums. In 1998 the Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the following year were named one of the RIAA's elite Artists of the Century honorees. Their momentous 2004 farewell tour filled stadiums around the world and this 2-DVD set captures one of the most stellar events from that now-historic global sweep.Format: DVD AUDIO Genre:MUSIC DVD/CONCERTS UPC:603497042326 Manufacturer No:970423

Thirty songs, spread out over two discs and well over two and a half hours, with fine performances, great sound, and good visual direction: it's all here on Farewell 1 Tour, a documentary of the Eagles' 2004 concert in Melbourne, Australia. At one point, the veteran band seemed unlikely to even make it to the new millennium, but here they are, mostly intact, with a string of hits dating back more than three decades. The majority of them are performed here, from the earliest ("Take It Easy," "Desperado," "Peaceful Easy Feeling") through "Hotel California" and "Life in the Fast Lane" and right up to "Love Will Keep Us Alive" (from Hell Freezes Over, their most recent recording with new material on it); there are also hits from Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Joe Walsh's solo careers, and a few new songs as well, including Walsh's "One Day at a Time" (an earnest ode to his new-found sobriety) and "Hole in the World," Frey and Henley's moving, almost gospel-tinged reaction to the events of 9/11/01. Guitarist Don Felder, who split acrimoniously with the band in 2001, isn't much missed, as replacement Steuart Smith plays the parts just as Felder did--i.e., pretty much exactly as they were recorded (indeed, pristine recreations of the studio versions of their songs has always been a hallmark of the Eagles' live shows). As for the somewhat cheeky title, well, there's always been a certain smugness to the Eagles' sense of humor, and it's no different this time, as Frey doesn't even pretend that there won't be a Farewell 2 Tour in the future. And why not? These are good songs, played beautifully by the quartet (plus supplemental musicians) to audiences that love them. Bonus material is limited to perfunctory interviews with the band. --Sam Graham

5 out of 5 stars Wow. America's Greatest.   September 5, 2008
The Eagles in concert live or on a DVD are simply amazing. The sounds of Don Henley and Glenn Frey are so distinctive and with the amzing guitar leadership of funny guy Joe Walsh and a very talented Steuart Smith makes this a very special album. And let us not forget Timothy B. Schmit on bass. Phenomenal.

5 out of 5 stars I feel like I'm there   September 2, 2008
I feel like I'm there at the concert. The audio and picture quality is outstanding on my 60" Plasma.

5 out of 5 stars Eagjes Farewell Tour (HD DVD   September 2, 2008
This was an excellent concert. Sound and picture were unbeleivable. The songs were done very close to the original versions in both voice and music, unlike some concerts where the try to change the music and voice tracks and ruin the song.

5 out of 5 stars The Eagles-Farewell 1 Tour- From Melbourne   August 31, 2008
This is an "Awesome" DVD. These guys sound better than they did years ago. The venue from Australia was great and the fans are more considerate that in the states. At least you can hear all the music and crowd is not a distraction to the concert. Watched this concert at least 5 times and it never gets old. Hope they have another "Farewell Tour" soon. Wish this would come out in just the CD. Will purchase that one too.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Concert!   August 23, 2008
The overall video quality for this HD-DVD is quite good. There are a few spots that are a little soft but they don't detract from the experience. The 5.1 soundtrack is also impressive. The performance is pretty much flawless. The Eagles are rich in vocal ability and it shows. All 4 of the main-stays, Henley, Frey, Walsh, and Schmidt are bonifide lead singers in their own right. Together, they are very impressive. Their instrumental abilities also do not disappoint. Walsh is an accomplished guitar player. Schmidt is an excellent bass player, very under-rated. Henley is a very able and steady drummer. Frey is a good rhythm guitar player. Henley frequently switches to guitar, but seems to use it as a prop as much as acually playing it. Frey switches to keyboards and though not fancy, does a fine job. With their supporting cast of talented players, it hardly matters anyway. Bottom line, they switch because they feel like it, not because thay have to. Sadly, many famous groups/bands really can't sing or play very well at all. The Eagles are the real deal. Unfortunately, the music business is just that, a business. Too often, talent takes a back seat to market-a-bility. I always enjoy hearing The Eagles many group and individual hits again. Great songs are always great. I also own their "Hell Freezes Over" DVD, which is also quite good. But this one looks better, sounds better, and has more songs. A+ in every way. Highly Recommended.
