Awesome - Go Get it October 13, 2008 Otis Redding. What a brilliant mind. He left us with some great music and I can only dream of what he would have done if he would have lived past 26 years old.
So most everyone loves his music, but watching him perform on this DVD makes it even more awesome. It sheds a new light on how great he is.
Buy this and enjoy!
Otis Redding: The Definition Of Soul September 7, 2008 I fell in love with Otis Redding during the summer of 1970, 2 1/2 years after his tragic death. I was 12 years old. In 1967, my sister invited me to the Apollo to see Otis. I declined. At that stage in my life, I didn't want to see anyone but the great Jackie Wilson perform. To this day, I wished I had seen him perform. But, after all, it was a decision that a 9-year-old made. But I sure made up for it during the summer of 1970. I listened to all of his albums--which my sister had purchased after seeing his Apollo concert--incessantly. My favorite two being his live performance in Europe, where he was absolutely revered, and the posthumously released "Dock of the Bay." His Monterrey performance was also a favorite. Rolling Stone called his performance there the best of the festival. A number of years ago, I purchased the video of the Monterrey performance, which featured interviews of many of those interviewed on this DVD. However, more than any other work, Dreams To Remember: The Legacy of Otis Redding, brings Otis to life. It is magical, as it captures the greatest soul singer ever. Hauntingly, when asked about his plans, Otis preferences his answer by saying, "If I am living..." He died shortly afterwards. Were I to recommend one work to introduce Otis to the world, this would be it. In fact, my sister watched it at my house (my gift to her for turning me on to Otis) and was astonished. An awesome work on a great man.
Wonderful retrospective!!! August 1, 2008 I recently saw the Otis Redding exhibit at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon. This DVD offers full length performances from his concerts and tv appearances through his brilliant career. I especially enjoyed the interviews with Zelma Redding, his widow, and Steve Cropper. I was disappointed that the DVD lacked interview footage of Otis along with biographical information. Other than that, it's great entertainment and a good value. I strongly recommend the "Stax/Volt Revue Live In Norway 1967" DVD as a companion which features Otis in concert with Eddie Floyd, Arthur Conley, Sam & Dave, and Booker T. and the M.G.'s.
THE LOVE MAN June 2, 2008 THIS IS SUCH AN EXCITING DOCUMENTARY! IT HAS A GOOD BALANCE BETWEEN OTIS' PERFORMANCES AND COMMENTARIES FROM THOSE THAT WERE CLOSE TO HIM IN HIS LIFE AND CAREER. THE FOOTAGE OF THE GREAT ONE'S PERFORMANCES BROUGHT BACK MEMORIES FROM OVER 40 YEARS AGO & WHY I FELL IN LOVE WITH OTIS AS A YOUNGSTER. THE FILM WAS NOT TOO SHORT BUT IT WAS SO GOOD THAT IT LEFT ME HUNGERING FOR MORE OF OTIS. HOW SAD THAT HE WAS CUT OFF FROM US WHEN HE WAS: I GUESS GOD WANTED HIM FOR HIS HEAVENLY CHOIR.
