SG-! August 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great collection - of course a wonderful series helps but the box and the style of presentation of the DVDs is wonderful. It makes our collection look very nice and I am very proud of it. Buying it as a gold box special was nice also. If you like sci fi and like collections, this if for you.
I just can't stop watching! August 19, 2008 Just as the title states, I can't stop watching... even the episodes I've seen... it's great to be able to watch the series from the start and see how it progressed.
The packaging is good... the holographic box looks great on the dvd shelf, I'm not particularly fond of the way the dvd's slide into the packaging as repeated removal could possibly scratch them over time, but I haven't had any problems yet.
The price was right and now I'm enjoying many episodes I hadn't seen before. Buy this, you won't be disappointed.
AWESOME August 19, 2008 I am so happy to get the entire season in one set, not to mention the excellent price I got from Amazon on it. It was definitely worth it.
Great series, great product August 18, 2008 I purchased Stargate SG-1: The Complete Series Collection from the Gold Box page several weeks back.
Although I had a problem with some of the DVDs not playing in my DVD player, I quickly figured out that it was due to cardboard dust. Simply blowing it away or gently wiping it off with a clean cloth fixed the problem. I guess it's inevitable to get some dust in a package so large!
This series is indeed complete. What more can I say about Stargate SG-1 that hasn't been said before?
Seeing the entire series from start to finish, I am really surprised at the depth of the storyline. On top of the overarching Goa'uld storyline, there are the Asgard, Tok'ra, Jaffa, Ancient, Ori, and even individual character development storylines to follow. I am surprised that the writers could keep track of so much and keep it so consistent over the years.
Besides the big picture, individual episodes stand out, like "Heroes" from season 7 where a near and dear character is killed in the line of duty, "200" from season 10 (you have to see it yourself!), "Crystal Skull" from season 3 where we meet Daniel's crazy grandfather, "Shades of Grey" where Jack goes to the dark side, "The Fifth Race" where Jack dials the 8th chevron, etc... Each episode leaves the fate of earth and the universe in a different position than it was before. Each new technology discovered changes the rules of the game. The only thing you can expect is to be surprised throughout the series.
I loved the morality of Stargate as well. Without being cheesy, Stargate SG-1 regularly challenges fundamental assumptions of morality and asks the audience why we do what we do. In the end, however, you can be assured that the right course of action, although difficult and uncertain, always leads to the best possible results. Honesty, fidelity, hard work, kindness, independence and ingenuity are always traits that defeat insincerity, sloth, cruelty, and dependence.
Unlike the Star Trek universe or the Star Wars universe, I love the universe in Stargate since it is so expansive with no boundaries definable. We've only just begun exploring our galaxy, and barely touched a few others, and yet there is so much more potential left for humanity!
Love it August 18, 2008 How could I pass up all ten seasons for $116? It's a great show and this is a great set. I call it my nerd pack. It comes with a helpful episode rundown booklet. They only thing I don't really care for is the packing. When you pull the DVDs out they tend to get little scratches. Be careful. :-)
