Product Description Three years ago, The Veronicas-identical twin sisters Jess and Lisa Origliasso-took their homeland of Australia by storm with their brilliant and phenomenally successful debut album, The Secret Life Of The Veronicas. Now a dramatic new sound marks The Veronicas' musical coming of age on Hook Me Up. Their pop punk leanings have given way to a more sophisticated electro-beat feel, though still marked by the sisters' signature harmonies and vocals, and innate pop sensibility.

Another Album Of The 2000's That Sucks December 29, 2008 I Just Don't Understand What's With Artists These Days. They Come Out As A New Artists With An Identefied Sound And Before You Know It They Pull the Rug From Under You And Alter Their Sound. In An Interview The Two Once Said "We Decided To Take A Different Route With Our Sound, We Don't Wanna Do The Same Thing Over And Over. Which Is Why Many Artist Tend To Get Stuck"
My Response To That Is That's Why It's Called A "Genre Of Music", You Listen To it Because It Has A Certain Sound. Also These Girls Are Are Experimenting Way Too Early In Their Career, This Is Only Their 2nd Album And They're Already Switching Things Around. How Many Switches Can You Do Until Theirs Nothing Left To Switch Too?. This Album Was A Big Dissappointment.
PS: Why Is It That In The 90's You Could Always Find A Great Artist With Atleast One Solid Album That Takes Your Breath Away And Leaves You Wanting More? Hopefully Pop Music Will Come Back To It's Standing Soon, It's Influencing Great Artists To Destroy Themselves.
Modern-day '80s movie soundtrack December 13, 2008 I bought this CD on a whim because I had heard their version of Goodbye to You on a TV commercial. I had no idea what to expect, but I listened straight through it and thought it was really catchy and a different sound than a lot of pop music out there today. It has a real '80s soundtrack feel with a modern pop-rock edge. The lyrics aren't poignant in the least, but that doesn't really matter because the sound is what draws you in. You can't help but want to dance to it; it's a great CD to listen to if you need a pick-me-up. The songs flow into each other really well, and there aren't any I need to skip over (sometimes you get some clunkers). I jokingly described it to a few friends as Kelly Clarkson on speed as told by Flashdance, and was told I was accurate. :)
Bringing back new wave in a brilliant second CD November 25, 2008 Hook Me Up has everything I look for in a followup album: It has a more consistent, firmed-up style, but it still has all the talent and best sounds of the debut. The Veronicas return with their killer vocals on a CD that's best described as a revival of new wave (punctuated by the final track "Goodbye To You", a homage to the original Scandal song). Whether it's retro or just the next evolution of Australian pop, it's great to hear keyboards and electronica punching up a solid pop vocal performance, like the '80s unfolding again in a world where richer sounds are now possible. Glorious.
For setting the tone of the CD, the intro "Untouched" and the title track are joined by "Take Me On The Floor" and "All I Have", each of which rounds out the general style that saturates this release. "This Is How It Feels" is a faster version of the same, almost more of a dance tune. "Popular" is sort of a cheeky hat tip to Avril-esque teen-punk. The ballads are each a little bit different--"This Love" is more like pop, "I Don't Wanna Wait" sounds almost like a nod to Wilson Phillips in its slower sections, "Revenge Is Sweeter" is a faster song that keeps with the spirit of the CD, and "In Another Life" is just a sweet slow song that fits nicely in the next-to-last spot. But my heart will always belong the power choruses, which is why "I Can't Stay Away" and "Someone Wake Me Up" are without a doubt my favorites on the CD. "I Can't Stay Away" sounds a lot like all the best parts of the best t.A.T.u. song imaginable combined with the twins' brilliant harmonies, very much like "Leave Me Alone" (my favorite track from their debut) in terms of the vocals.
For those concerned about the parental advisory, it's only there because "This Is How It Feels" drops a single F-bomb in one verse. That's it. There's no general pattern of strong language throughout the CD so with that one exception it's nothing to worry about--but I doubt buying an edited version would mar the experience at all, so pick whichever one you prefer.
I really like where the Veronicas are taking their music. More of this style in the future would be heartily welcomed. Until then I'm sure I'll be listening to this CD a lot more; I can't stay away.
Love the Veronicas, what happened to the band? October 31, 2008 Another excellent set. Great for a dance club. What happened to the band? Lots of drum machine and techno sounds in this one. Liked them much better with live musicians. Great songs again, bring back a band.
Excellent from Beginning to End October 9, 2008
There is not one bad song on Hook Me Up by the Veronicas. Every song is polished, well-produced and catchy. The vocals are strong as are the harmonies. If you want great music, here it is!
