3 out of 5 stars Laughable   July 10, 2008
It's so bad its funny. Thats why I gave it 3 stars. It's really a good bit of comedy, it really gives Weird Al a run for his money. I laughed out loud, but really, don't waste your money.

4 out of 5 stars Something Different   April 18, 2008
I have been a Rush Fan since 2112, I am in a Rush Tribute band (We play the songs like the originals). When I bought this album I did not know what to expect. Initially I found it very funny, and at the same time I enjoyed the extreme nature of the songs. I dont mind Death Metal (although I dont always understand it). Anyone who makes a tribute to Rush takes a big chance of being mocked due to the average progressive rock listeners opinions (let's face it most of us are music snobs and that is why we got into Progressive in the first place, due to its technical wonders). There are a few good tracks on this album, the ones that stand out are Tears and Freewill. I also must admit I loved Spirit of Radio (with the dumbed down guitar part) because the vocalist sounds like he is trying to be an opera singer. Finally the versions of Subdivisions, Tom Sawyer and Temples of Syrinx are quite frankly hilarious. I do not take the album as being a work of art but I must admit I do enjoy listening to it from time to time between listening to my Rush and Dream Theater albums... Cheers

5 out of 5 stars This is why you don't cover greatness   April 13, 2008

Whenever greatness is copied, it is ridiculed by the jealous. Obviously, Rush has TONS of untalented, jealous followers that also think they're going to be musicians one day, or else this album would not have a single bad rating. Truth be told, Rush is not really that great, but their songs mattered. That's what its about, their songs, not Rush. Rush is a horrible band, but their songs are near perfect, and most of the covers on Red Star are better than Rush's versions. But not to "the true Rush fans," the ones who're dumb enough to think Lee, Peart, and Lifeson actually have a collection of Ayn Rand books.

I'm finding it harder and harder to enjoy Rush, all because of their INSANE fans. You think they care about what you all think???

5 out of 5 stars Totally rocks -much better then anything rush ever did   March 1, 2008

I am a metal fan and picked up this album without ever having heard Rush before. It totally rocked. It inspired me to try to listen to Rush -though that was a really bad idea. The originals are nowhere as fast or as heavy as the Tribute was. If you are a metal fan you are much better of listening to this album and giving Rush a wide berth.

3 out of 5 stars Ain't nothin' like the real thing.   April 4, 2007

It has never been a problem marketing the talentless to the tasteless. This album, with one minor exception, stands as an example to that fact.
As a long-time Rush fan I almost found listening to this CD sacrileges'.
Why would anyone dumb-down Rush's music in this way? The death-metal "vocalists" sound like they're gargling with broken glass. (My daughter actually thought they were trying to sing like the Cookie Monster!)
If you ever wondered how Rush's music would sound stripped of it's integrity, this is the album for you.
I found there was actually one track on this CD that made the purchase worthwhile: Freewill. The vocalist covering this track just nails the very high "cell of awarness" line. That kind of power and range has to be respected. Accordingly, I give him three stars for that one note.
