1 out of 5 stars Disappointed   September 6, 2008
Very disappointed.
When this was done the original performers were long in the tooth and past their prime on the whole.
When performers were substituted, they did not come close to the originals.

5 out of 5 stars Everything you'd expect and more   June 20, 2008
BROADWAY'S BEST AT POPS is a truly remarkable collection of performances. These are the best of the best, in terms of stars, songs and performances.

There's plenty of great stuff here that you'd expect to see on a DVD of this type -- Ethel Merman, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Grey, Carol Channing, Tommy Tune, Barbara Cook and Bernadette Peters. But there's also a lot of surprises. Kristin Chenoweth's "Glitter and Be Gay" is phenomenal (perhaps even better than the concert version from the CANDIDE she did a few years back). Elaine Paige makes a rare American appearance, singing the role that made her famous twenty years before. Audra McDonald is, as always, spectacular, but she is less well-known than many of the performers here. Bonnie Raitt and John Raitt's "Hey There" is breathtakingly good, and what a pleasant surprise to see Ray Bolger included here.

But there is one moment on this DVD that far surpasses everything else, and it's probably the biggest surprise here: Tyne Daly singing "Trouble" from THE MUSIC MAN. As she says in her intro, as a child she imagined herself playing Professor Harold Hill, rather than Marian the librarian. And her performance is flawless!

I only wish we could get entire episodes of EVENING AT POPS on DVD. Until that happens, though, this is a must-have for any fan of Broadway and the Boston Pops.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding DVD   April 14, 2008
Broadway at the Pops combines the wonderful music of the Boston Pops with timeless performances broadway stars singing many of their best-loved melodies. I highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars More of same, please   March 9, 2008
'Broadway at the Pops' is excellent; especially for those - like me - who have never had - nor will ever have - the opportunity to attend one in person. I have visited Boston several times.

As a 'sign off', all I can write is 'more of the same, please'.

5 out of 5 stars Just Buy It!!!!!   December 31, 2007

Being a long term Boston Pops fan, and with a very limitied availablity in Australia for anything Boston Pops, probably now read Nil!!, this is a must have. It provides a range of music with 3 majestic conductors, and I love it.
I was lucky enough to meet John Williams out the back of the Hollywood Bowl a couple of years ago, and he is a very nice man, and I love all of his work.
If you like this kind of music, this DVD is a must have!!!!
