3 out of 5 stars dream on   January 6, 2009
A die hard fan would love this video. I have always enjoyed their work and listen to their work often. I was, a little disappointed in the quality of some of the footage.James Labrae's vocals seemed strained. I almost felt sorry for him. I think he is an amazing artisit, I wish they would have picked more flattering songs from the begining of the journey around the world. They all look worn out and in need of a vacation.I personally love their new albulm THAT IS WORTH EVERY CENT! CHAOS IN MOTION THE ALBULM IS YOUR BETTER INVESTMENT by a lONG SHOT!

4 out of 5 stars I Really Enjoyed This One!   December 29, 2008
I have all the DT produced concert DVDs and though I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of this one that I hadn't seen before I ended up really enjoying this DVD. First off, it is shot in a more raw format with what seems like hand held digital video recorders. Because the footage jumps around to different venues for groups of songs some of the footage is more polished than others. Some reviewers seem to be really disappointed that the production value is not polished like Live in Budokan or Score but I found the rawness to have an edge that I enjoyed. It felt like it brought me a little closer to the real thing. Also, there are DT tidbits in between a lot of the concert where they or the crew talk about life on the road. Some of these sections are cool, others are a bit frivolous. Once again DT has chosen to include mostly songs that do not appear on any of the other concert DVDs which is well appreciated.

Disc 2 includes a 90 minute documentary about their life on the road from their daily routines to the crew to pre-show and show inner workings. It is somewhat interesting and tends to spend more time on the tech side of putting together their show rather than their personal lives on the road. Again, it is at least something different than their other DVDs. What I do like about DT is that they are not afraid to let you into their world so that you really get to know the musicians behind the songs.

My only negative comment is that grown men in their 40s should cuss a bit less (someone else commented on this). Especially during the live show. Why James feels the need to act this way I am not sure but it gets annoying and seems not to fit with their professionalism in music.

Overall I give it 4 stars for being a fresh twist on their usual concert DVDs. I enjoyed it for the rawness, the documentary, and of course for the killer music.

4 out of 5 stars Dream Theatre great, but they should....   December 12, 2008
hey should record audience more than this.

I think lots of people have been to their concerts, and bought this dvds because they wanna feel like they can join with them.
But i can'nt see not much audience face in this dvds.

sorry for my langauge, but hope you understand

4 out of 5 stars Chaos excelsior   December 7, 2008
I like this DVD a lot , it's not as good as the Score disc which is just a masterpiece of sound and performance, but it is good and is one of the most unique concert DVDs you'll ever find, the second disc with the film of the tour covers everything about a rock tour anyone would want to know
the first disc shows clips of various shows, some are shot poorly(Rotterdam) but the music is still fantastic and these guys have the chops to dies for, unbelievable what they do, and with such precision!
They could have made a one venue disc but this is ambiitious and cool, kudos to Portnoy to have the balls to do this,, definitely recommend, by the by the film to Presence of Enemies is killer stuff by itself

4 out of 5 stars Real deal!!   October 21, 2008

Stop bitching & mourning about the production of this dvd, people, and fans.(!!) Portnoy has warned us about the production beforehand. "...not as good as Budokan or Score, it'll be like 5 years in a livetime". That says it all. Who cares how they look on screen? This band is about music, not about how pretty they are. Well, not for me at least. I personally don't care for overly fixed live materials anyway.

The sound is great, particularly in 5.1ch. The song line-up is great(except this very version of "Take the time", an insult to James and fans!! The best part is missing!!!), but this depends on your taste. All the behind DT concert thing is enjoyable for die-hard fans like me. If you think DT is just ok, these will be boring.

I didn't give 5 stars because there are several parts where the songs start while the interviews haven't finished and also the interviews start while the songs haven't fully ended. They(or MP?) did that with 5 years in a livetime. Remember "6:00"? Also and again, it could've been better without this version of "Take the time" but with another song or two like "Never enough" or "Hell's kitchen" or you name it.

I, however got "the special edition" with 3 cds. Those who want to enjoy their music purely, without being interrupted, I recommend this (although right now it's out of stock).
