Much Better - And could be Erasure's defining moment. August 28, 2007 After a little bit of a Erasure break for several years, I am slowly starting to go back to their music. I have decided to see some of their concert videos as well. After watching 'The Erasure Show' (which came much later after this one) I became mightily depressed and sad about the way Andy Bell has become. Luckily, I have just seen TTTSANTB, and well, we can all have pleasant memories of what Erasure used to be can't we? Becaause this DVD is OUTSTANDING. This looks to have been recorded during their Chorus years (I attended one of their 'Wild' concerts) and Andy looks amazing in this. totally fit, voice in perfect shape, and just boogying all over the place (as opposed to the other DVD). I havent the foggiest why they splurged so much on this show, because it's spectacular. Dancers, costumes, props, everything. The catalog they use is equally fun too, with new stuff (eg everything from the Chorus album) mixed in with the old (Sometimes, Oh Lamour etc). I really also how they plucked the obscure songs out of the catalog as well, for example, "Love Is A Loser" and especially that extremely old B side, "Soldier's Return". This is just dynamite. Crisply edited and sounds great, this is a must for any Erasure fan.
One of thier best shows August 22, 2007 I did not see this show live, but have been to more recent concerts. How I would have loved to actually see this live. But this dvd captures all the fun and the great music. I throw it on the dvd player and crank up the surrond sound. It's like being there. Well worth the money. Love it.
Erasureific! August 24, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful concert. Great songs. "Interesting" costumes and dance routines. I watch this a lot. Was worth the money.
COMPLETELY PHANTASMAGORICAL! April 30, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
An all-out Erasure fest, a simply awesome production from the Music,Vocals, the stage and the choreography (it was hilarious to hear Vince Clarke's pronounciation "choreography" in the interview part! Sorry Vince.) Most interesting was the counterpoint to this over the top technofest:"Perfect Stranger" where Vince and Andy present in their bathrobes with nothing more than a microphone and a Casiotone keyboard to do a bare-bones rendition of 'Perfect Stranger'. A brilliant deconstruction and demonstration that even in the abscence of the armada of technology wielded, that it all boils down to solid basics: a good song and exceeding vocal talent. It's a must-have for all Erasure fans.
  Nice, but . . . March 26, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This concert was a remarkable spectacle live. The original reworkings of every song and a set list studded with obscure gems made it a delight for fans, and that's without mentioning the over-the-top theatrics. I was so in love with the show, I bought tickets to see it again on the following night.
Fast forward 15 years. I was so excited about this video when it was first released, that I considered buying a PAL VCR to be able to order a copy from the UK. When I finally got around to buying the eventual DVD release, I've got to say that it was a bit of a let down. It's all there, and it's fun to see again, but the quality of the footage is mediocre in my opinion.
The opening shots were not even centered on the stage. Then, from the editing to the seemingly washed out colors, it just didn't seem that compelling. I would have to guess that their production budget was a fraction of the much higher quality Wild! video.
Buy it, it's a fun show, etc, and most people seem to like it. But I loved the show, hadn't seen it in years, and found myself fast forwarding through the video out of boredom. The bootleg CD release of the same tour, Welcome to the Glitterdome, was a much more enjoyable experience to me. The music is outstanding, but I personally doubt I will be playing the DVD again any time soon. Cheers!
PS. It is almost painful watching Vince Clarke pretending to perform for the camera here. I admire the man's contribution to synth pop, but I would have much preferred it if he went back to his amazing feats of dexterity on stage from the Yazoo days of balancing a cigarette in one hand and a cocktail in the other.
