5 out of 5 stars What a treasure!   November 8, 2008

I literally grew up on this music. I have easily played it over a 100 times if not closer to 200. As for the performances, they are classics and you certainly can't go wrong with them - though I wouldn't say they are the 'best' for either of the respective pieces. Konstantin Scherbakov is an extraordinary pianist. The first thing you notice on hearing these two excellent performances is his amazing ability to play at high speed with no loss of control or shapeliness of phrasing. While never short-changing the virtuoso elements (particularly in the finale), has a give-and-take that few other versions match. There are a couple of brief spots in the first movement where the tension does drop a bit as Scherbakov lapses into dreamy reverie, but otherwise this is as persuasive a performance of this warhorse as any on disc. The orchestra and conductor have just as much to offer as the soloist, being totally at one with the interpretive concept and wholly characterful in their collective response.
I am very happy to report the DTS-HD version is the best that will ever be available for this recording and looking forward to see more music titles with this superior audio quality.

1 out of 5 stars A GOD-DAMN D9 as it is!!!   November 7, 2008

Yes this so-called "blu-ray" is all weired from the ground up just because it's totally a GOD-DAMN D9 DVD! I don't know whether you guys have tried to put that thing in your DVD-ROM and used PowerDVD or something else to see whether it could be played! IT JUST COULD!!! And you can even learn thers's a capcity of 5GB data on that disc with your Windows Explorer. What's more, just notice the label on the inner circle of the data side, it reads: "TCHAIKOVSKY L1 F1 DVD". Just be aware: A 7.1 DTS-HD MA track DOES NOT imply a blu-ray disc, and now all we got is a D9 IN A BLU-RAY CASE AND ITS PRICE!!!

5 out of 5 stars Problem solved   November 7, 2008

I am enjoying this great music and great sound.

Many discs have compatibility problems in terms of firmware upgrade, I bought new Transformers disc and it has problem loading on PS3 too.
I had this problem with this title as well, I contacted the company (see email address in my comment) and whey send me the disc that works just fine.
I recommend you do the same if for some reason disc wont load.

1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work   November 7, 2008

I tried in three different Blu ray players: this disk doesn't work. and I open the box, I mean I bougt it NEW.
Why? Why companies throw they products without previous testing? Why I have to pay for one man's hungry to achieve "top performance" in his dirty job? I'm just a buyer who wants to enjoy the music. And pay for this and I don't get a single sound, it's simple; it's just anfair...
Enjoy the prize to achieve your goals, sales manager, don't you forget the bill's coming sooner or later.

3 out of 5 stars Audio only DVD   August 22, 2008

This is an excellent recording. The music audio quality is excellent. The Blu-ray disk is audio only (as the title says). This Blu-ray disk does have a strange problem, it will not play through without loosing audio output (somewhere in Chapter 5). If you restart chapter 5 playing, all is fine. Maybe it is just this disk???
