Amazon.com The Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds live concert was a sold-out sensation everywhere it played, and this concert video is the next best thing to being there for all the fans that couldn't get tickets to attend the concert in person. The movie opens with Miley Cyrus backstage in make-up and hair, warming up with vocal exercises, then cuts to Hannah Montana (her alter ego)'s performance of "Rock Star," and then back in time to four weeks before her performance when concert rehearsals were just beginning. It runs like a backstage special feature for a while, following Hannah Montana through coaching, choreography scenes with Kenny Ortega, and rehearsal sessions. Then it's back to concert footage from opening night in St. Louis and all along the tour, seasoned here and there with some fun looks at the concerts' special effects, quick costume changes, other logistical challenges (Hannah gets dropped during a routine early in the tour), and lots of shots of the enthusiastic, mostly female 'tween audiences. The 3D format gives the audience a nice sense of being there and includes some effective, if somewhat overused shots of the crowd waving, Hannah/Miley reaching out to the audience, and fun stunts like the drummer's twirling stick thrown high in the air and the guitar player's pick being tossed out into the audience. The sound is adequate, but fails to replicate the live concert experience (the plus side is that the audience's ears won't be ringing for hours after the performance). Hannah Montana's performance includes "Rock Star," "Life's What You Make It," "Just Like You," "Nobody's Perfect," and "We Got the Party." The Jonas Brothers perform "When You Look Me In the Eyes" and "Year 3000," and then Miley hits the stage with "Start All Over," "I Got Nerve," "I Miss You" (which Miley wrote in honor of her Granddad's passing), "Going Away," "GNO: Girl's Night Out," and "The Best of Both Worlds." This 3D concert presentation truly is the "best of both worlds," a 3D concert experience with easy availability and minimal expense. Better yet is the message that girls can do anything they want if they put their minds and hearts to it. (Ages 7 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

No closed captioned August 21, 2008 I bought it for my young daughter and we sat down to watch it only to learn that the whole time Miley was singing on stage, it was not closed captioned so I had no idea what she was singing about. The only time it was closed captioned was when she was rehearsing for the show or talking between songs. This isn't right and I expected the entire songs to be closed captioned. Also wearing the 3-D glasses really started to hurt my eyes as they were of poor quality so I had to take it off. I am not pleased with the whole thing.
DVD Review August 19, 2008 I work at a video store & had the pleasure of first seeing this in the theaters w/ a good friend of mine. I am a little peeved to see that 4 out of the 6 deleted songs were included on the dvd, but the one that I would have really liked to see, "East Northumberland High," was not included in any of the special features. "Right Here," "SOS," "Good & Broken," & "Pumpin' Up The Party," were on the disc w/ the middle 2 songs included as bonuses while the 1st & last song were edited back into the concert itself. I have tried looking to see if the songs were easter eggs, but no such luck. The DVD itself is great w/ its typical Disney DVD features, but I would have liked to see "East Northumberland High," in the concert. Oh well, can't win them all.
Good but it needs some changes. August 10, 2008 I saw this in theaters and it was quite entertaining. I have a few complaints though...My first one is that it was much too short, there was no need to edit out any songs, although it seems like they added them back as bonus features on this DVD.
My second, and biggest complaint is the Jonas brothers....they are awful, totally talentless hacks that have no place in the music industry, needless to say at these concerts and this DVD. They're segment of the concert is brief, but still entirely too long. A collaboration with Miley was all that would be needed, since they wrote one of her songs. There are hundreds of better ways to buy time for Miley than to have the Jonas brothers perform. But once you get past the nasal section (Jonas brothers) of the show, it goes smoothly.
My third complaint, about the DVD version specifically, is the 3-D effect seems to have been downgraded. I believe they have gone from the outstanding new technology implemented in theaters to the very old and crappy red and blue glasses. This negates all of the awesome visuals in the concert, and makes the entire experience far less enjoyable. I was fully expecting to buy this DVD, but I am not so sure I want to spend $25 for a crappy 3-D version. Why can't they just use the same 3-D technology they used in theaters? There MUST be better ways to have the same effects in your house without resorting to the old red and blue. I still don't quite understand what they need 2 discs for. The concert is just over an hour long, and the features are probably about 30 minutes. Unless they are also including a non 3-D version of the concert on the second disc, which would make it more desirable.
not what it was in the theater July 27, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
this was cool in the theater, becuase it was realistic and looked nice, in this version the only 2 colors you can see are shades of blue and red and it makes it like a whole different video, it was a movie I remembered as the best 3D movie I had ever seen, and on this version, it is just like anything else, its not worth the money to get this DVD, just wait til someone uploads it on thepiratebay or demonoid and get it free.
I pre-ordered it July 26, 2008 I Pre-ordered this today off amazon, for my 8 year old niece, because she was helping me with my two little ones, while I was getting some work done around the house. I heard the concert was this big movie with 3-D effects. She loves Hannah montana, and the Jonas brothers so I have a gut feeling she will love it. I also heard its going to be on Disney channel tonight so I will watch it with my daughter to see if I think my niece will like it. It looks reall cool and very HQ. I hope this is a great purchase. update (aug 10 ) I did watch it with my daughter on 7/26/08 and she enjoyed it. we got the glasses previously at walmart well we accually bought 3 pairs just in case but we only needed 2. She loved it alot and is a huge Hannah Montana fan, but it wasnt at all what i expected. Its not 3-D like I was hoping for. it was 3-D but not very well. I'm mad at myself that i didnt buy it after i saw it, so once it comes to our home, I might return it, or see if my niece likes it for sure. and if she saw it and liked it ill give it to her. but im pretty sure it will be returned.
