Great... September 4, 2008 I think this video is adorable and great to help in the potty training. My daughter loves Elmo.
Only time will tell August 27, 2008 The main points are that this video discusses the concept of going from needing your parents help to do lots of things, especially changing a diaper- to being a "big kid" and being able to do things on your own, like eating and walking and using the bathroom. It puts emphasis on recognizing your body's internal cues for hunger, thirst, and to use the bathroom. It also stresses proper hygiene and hand washing, conservation of toilet paper, and that every creature uses the bathroom in their own way, as well as suggesting various names for animal waste (poo, doo, dookie, number one, numero dos, pee, wee, etc).
My son has loved this video for a while - I got it for him when he was 9 months old and now he is one year and he still stays enthralled for the entire duration of the video. His favorite segments are the handwashing segment, the MC Frontalot rap about how toilet paper is made, the Elmo and Prarie Dawn segment about the steps involved with using the potty and getting to use "big kid underwear," the gorilla segment about listening to your body, and the dirty diaper blues segment with little kids running around in diapers. Oh wow. He also loves the "You're a big kid now" song and the "trying and trying again" song with the kids and kitten trying different new things.
I guess that's about 95% of the video right there - the only part that loses his attention is when Grover sings about how "Accidents Happen." Which stinks, because I love Grover - er LOVED Grover, when I was a kid that is. Oh well.
This video holds his attention and he yells back at Elmo and Co. (in that baby babble way) and he now gives me the time I need to wash my hands after changing his diaper, whereas before he used to scream like the dickens. It all takes time though - and even though he's probably got another year before he'll be potty-trained and at least 6 months before I actually try to sit him on a potty, I'm glad that he is getting a basic introduction to the procedures and concepts involved.
Good start video for potty training August 20, 2008 My son will be turning 2 in a few weeks and we bought this video to get his started since he loves Elmo so much. Although it is a different format than "Elmo's World" and more of a "Sesame Street" format, he still loves it and his Elmo is in the starring role. He has gone pp in his Elmo potty twice (hopefully more to come!). We are just taking things slow, one step at a time and I believe this DVD is a great tool for getting things started!
Hilarious August 18, 2008 DD loved watching this video over and over. It's pretty darn funny so DH & I really didn't mind.
not for mine..maybe for older kids July 27, 2008 So My 2 1/2 yr old son absolutely loves elmo. so I got him this dvd to help him get fully potty trained. I put it on for him, and would not even watch it at all. i tried four different days... and nothing. it is more for older children who can comprehend more. maybe pre-k or older. I will be trying another dvd. if you can, rent or borrow this one before you buy.
