a splendid experience! January 25, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great music, a beautiful setting, performers in top form- this is a first-class production all the way. It's a real treat to watch musicians who can actually perform live!
I took off one star because the mixing on the DVD seemed a bit off- several times you could see the various musicians but not hear them, for example Loreena on her accordion, and the violinist often sounded muffled, especially in the "duels" with the electric guitar.
But overall this a wonderful experience- highly recommended.
Good but some flaws January 8, 2008 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
Loreena is one of those rarest of birds in today's entertainment industry. She can sing (obviously), writes great lyrics and can play several instruments. She has talent. She's like Enya with a brain.
But as I was watching the DVD, it seemed there was a couple things that were unsettling. First off, I thought the electric guitar and some of the "rock" drumming seemed out of place. A little too over bearing. I mean this is not supposed to be AC-DC.
I also thought a horrible job was done on the mixing. You see people playing and you strain your ear to find their notes but you hear nothing. There's a song that has a harp intro and then Loreena sings. As soon as the singing starts, the harp basically disappears. It seems pretty apparent to me the mixing was done to actentuate the singing at the expense of the instumentalists. I give the DVD 4 stars based on the poor quality of the sound mix. The mix should have been a little more balanced.
The audience was not much of a factor either. I like to see the audience interaction but European audiences tend to sit there like graveyard statues so there probably wasn't much point.
Outside the scope of the DVD, I think Loreena could add another dimension to her music by adding additional singers. Perhaps for another time?

I'm envious of those who were able to see this concert in person. What a beautiful setting, and how appropriate for her wonderful music. I would love to hear new music from her so hope she is still composing. This is a great CD and DVD!
Excellent Concert !!! November 25, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This concert compiled the best songs of her discography. Specially selected in order to introduce you into a world of magic. You can feel her as if you were traveling by her side around the world. She has the power, the voice, the talent of a prodigy artist.
There is no other artist in this planet like her. This concert is more than amazing, and she is the best of the best ! BRAVO!!!
McKennitt is wonderful October 21, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first time I heard Ms. McKettitt was when she performed a piece in the movie "Soldier". She totaly swept me up and I quickly bought four of her CDs. This disk collection is the frosting. Actually watching her perform is a real treat. This is a very talented woman. If you've never heard Ms. McKennitt, buy this set. You will be as captivated by her artistry and her beauty as I was and you'll be writing reviews, too.
